And I'd feel bad ripping off community work from a community I didn't create...

What should we list as interests? What should we add to the bio?

I'll probably need co-mods, huh?

So, petal, which community are you worried about ripping off?

All the steam comms on LJ cross pollinate madly. I'm a mod on steamfashion, and I can tell you with all certainty that even though we're only supposed to be fashion, every little dribble and dreg that looks like it may vaguely relate. And there's an awful lot of cross posting and whatnot, too.

The way to stand out is to set your terms and your agenda. Do you want advertising? Is this comm going to allow promotions. I love the look of this Friday question thing - very clever. Is this going to be a thoughtful community, or something more fun and frivolous? A strong identity will help you be your own person here.

Just do your own thing. Nobody owns steampunk. That's half the fun. You put in half the love and half the effort that people do into the coms you're worried about ripping off, and you'll be doing just fine. You have a clean slate over here. Do what you dream with it.
