What I'm looking for is suggestions on where to find materials to make outfits, where to go to meet up with like-minded people, and information about events that might be happening in my area. Discussion or recommendations of steampunk media (books, movies, TV shows, websites, whatever) would be cool too.
But good conversation and a good time is always appreciated as well.
I want to read the entries people make, and learn stuff by doing so: particularly the media, but materials sources might be very handy too.
I'll also probably go back to the previous year and look at the movie recommendations -- when we've been around enough for there to be previous years, I mean -- because I generally can't watch movies until they've been released with captions. (I'm hearing-impaired. There's often only one theater showing a film with captions in my area, despite the fact that I live in a major metropolitan area, so it's a bit of a major enterprise to find a captioned version in a theater that I can actually get to. Having a chronological record, in the form of entries here, of what to look for on DVD would be excellent.)
I want to see the cool stuff everybody else makes, too. So encouraging photo or link posting would make me happy.
You know what would be really cool? Starting a movie discussion of steampunk movies that are out on DVD that people like. You could post some of your favorites, and maybe pick up some recs! (I don't want to monopolize the conversation, so I'm trying to cheerlead people into posting!!)
It seems like maintaining some sort of resource list post is a good idea from what I'm seeing.
Do you (informal poll time!) prefer pics above or below the cut?
I'd like resource links for media -- books, movies, etc., since I only know about things like The Golden Compass and various Jules Verne books and adaptations....

(Just trying to figure out what sort of administrative categories and memories we might want to have!)
